Connected…
For the last week we haven’t been connected. It’s been hell! But it’s been the kind of hell that you know will come to an end and somehow rectification will be discovered. It’s a first world problem, one for the technology spoilt, like myself. It’s short-lived and easily forgettable. But it’s annoying, plain and simple! I’m talking about the Internet, our cable connection and the imminent death of my iPhone. But more annoying than the loss of connection is the rings you run trying to get answers. The life of a blogger is all about connection. Being present…!
When you can’t connect on your terms it’s like a big void being erected in an unplanned environment. You feel disjointed from the world, a little miffed, FOMO (aka fear of missing out) creeps in, you hunt for wi-fi wherever wi-fi might be as your poor, poor husband plays ‘ring-around-the-rosy’ searching for answers in a minefield of phone transfers.
My phone might still be headed for a ‘digital heaven’ but at least I’m back in the land of the net-o-sphere… And hubby has some rest from his newfound tele-friends. But it has also made me question… Is taking a break from ‘connection’ healthy, or rather more specifically a ‘digital connection break’?
I personally think it is!
Although it had been frustrating as hell, there are also great things that ensue from stepping away from your devices and doing the things you love. I’ve read a lot more in the last week, I’ve gone to the gallery, caught up with friends, celebrated a birthday… talked more (foreign as it seems) and watched movies. By connecting with yourself and your loved ones you are able to give back more to others! Sometimes a forced break from the world of technology is exactly what you need (when it’s your hand that’s doing the forcing of course hahaha!).
Take a moment to ask yourself… Do you need a break from ‘connection’?
With love, light and bundles of gratitude xx
