We are already a few days into this New Year and boy doesn’t it feel refreshing already! Something strange happens when the calendar ticks over to 1 January, it’s as if the energy levels in the world grow greater and everyone has this optimistic approach to life, the possibilities and the motivation to succeed in their chosen resolutions for the year ahead.
But… and here it is the big B word… why does this energy fade when we get to February? Why has the optimism vanished and why do the resolutions that we have made seem less achievable? It’s because we allow the little monster of DOUBT to enter our minds and that positivity and focus that we were so eager to demonstrate and act upon starts to slowly creep away, backing into a corner we sometimes call reality… (enter doom music).
But… here is my other B word with a slightly higher vocal tone… why does it have to be this way? I personally believe that if we set ourselves one (just one!) realistic goal a year, something that is so deep and important in our daily lives and one that we hold dear, that when we wake up in the morning we strive to achieve the steps required to be on the journey of accomplishing said goal, then we can only truly achieve a satisfying outcome, and patting ourselves on the back while we do so.
My goal for the year (I use the word goal because I don’t really like the word resolution, its harsh and final to me; goal has a nice funky one-syllable ring to it like FUN and I like to use higher vocal tones hehe!)… is to confront fear. Now I hear you go…. “Woah (doom music enters again) hold up there Naked, that’s very big and confronting and how does one confront fear”?
I don’t think it is THAT confronting, it will be hard and eye opening and I don’t think the journey will be all roses and daffodils but if I open my mind to the small steps along the way, such as:
Number 1: Acknowledge that fear is an enemy, how do you make it a friend.
Number 2: How do you make fear fun; and
Number 3: Open your mind to the steps involved in tackling this big scary word. (which now that I come to think of it, isn’t really that scary when fear, like fun is a one-syllable word so let’s make it funky!).
In my last blog post I touched on how to keep things simple in being kind and being gentle to your self. With my goal for the year, I will be doing just that and the exploration of combining a gentle approach to my goal will make the process so much more appealing.
Remember when you set your GOAL (see how I made it just one goal!), make it:
– realistic
– meaningful; and above all
– make it FUN!!!!!!!!
Because fun motivates you, energy motivates you and we feel so much better when fun and energy are combined!
TIP: One of the best purchases I made at the end of 2013 was buying my 2014: My Year to MOVE NOURISH BELIEVE Lorna Jane Active Living Journal. Its bright, its pink god damn it (the colour of fun and motivation – I am female after all) and it is filled with the most lovely inspirational words and tips; activities to really make you stop, think and consider that day or that week you had or what you hope/plan for the week ahead. It is my biggest love (besides Anthony of course) this year! Sorry fellas, I know pink might not be your colour, but we will endeavour to source a great alternative for you… or you can break the colour divide and go pink… for life! Hehehe!
Make 2014 a year of possibilities, fun, motivation and energy! I look forward to sharing the journey with you!
What goal are you going to achieve this year?
