Today for Thankful Thursdays, I am thankful for… caring back!
In quite the role reversal, this week I became a little carer, instead of the one being cared for.
My sister has had a painful week and turns out she needed calcium buildup dissolved in her shoulder. It’s been trips to doctors, scan centers, back to the doctors and then a procedure today involving what my sister would refer to as a “f@&king big painful needle” aspiration! And she doesn’t nearly have as big a potty-mouth as me.
It must have been BIG!
Apparently there were screams from the room, and as I told the staff… “lucky the tv was on loud” so no one in the waiting room escaped for fear of what awaited them also. Halloween is over friends!!! Wahhhhhhhaaaaa!!!
Today though as my sister lay resting and I took to my chores, it made me think that one plus side for the whacky position I am in, is that I was available to care back… for her!
With my cancer and all the treatments and procedures I’ve experienced, I know what it feels like to need someone to take you to multiple appointments, to not be able to drive when a ligament causes so much pain, or move or lift anything really. (Even your own kid… hmmmm don’t really know that one… mines pretty furry!). And I understand when you don’t want to be alone and you want someone to hold your hand.
This week, I am grateful that I was that person for my sister. That after all these years of requiring people to care for me, I could give back and care for her. And let’s face it sometimes we just want our sisters, isn’t that right girls?
So between all the appointments and the running around, there were still moments where I could lovingly assist my sister to indulge in vegan cupcakes, tea, some fresh air… and of course Winston cuddles!
What are you thankful for today darling Naked? Please share below!
With love, light and bundles of gratitude xx
