Today on this very busy Thankful Thursday, I am thankful for… age! Reflection is a powerful thing! It allows us to appreciate life’s little moments of greatness. Sometimes we can see age as a limitation… often wishing we were younger or that we had less wrinkles or heaven forbid less grey hairs (for those that have any), or that we could move faster! But before the young ones start rolling their eyes, realise too that you are thankful for age also even if you didn’t realise it.
Age is a beautiful gift.
Yes it definitely means that there is a new digit added to your name and that the teens soon turn into the twenties and the twenties into thirties and very soon you might see the fifties and wonder where all the good years went. Until you realise how many good years you have actually had. I hope that I get to the stage where I look at my license and see that I am living in my fifties…or beyond – don’t you? But until you are faced with the possibility that the fifties or the forties or even the 35ths may not be a possibility you soon realise the very huge blessing that age bestows on you. As I come down from my frantic week of babies, births and birthdays I can silently reflect on the happiness of turning 34. To some the age may seem old, to others it may just be a number, but I still think I am as young as I did when I was a teenager… maybe a little wiser, with a hell of a lot more baggage then I did back then but with so many life experiences that I wouldn’t change any of them (except this pesky disease that keeps lurking around). Age makes you feel! Age makes you see! Age creates the stories, the chapters, the sonnets to your life! Not everyone gets to live their life to the age they imagined as a child, and for those that do there is usually the burden of heavy pressure and expectations of where you thought you would be by this age or that age…! With each year that passes promise yourself that you will not look negatively to ageing, celebrate it, thrive in it, learn from it.
One of my beautiful followers who has survived her own battle with breast cancer sent me a great message about turning 50, where she had celebrated 17 50th birthday parties. 17!!!!! I love this!!!!! Her advice to me about turning 34 was… “celebrate, never let it end”! And it is true! Celebrate every day! Be thankful for everyday and be happy with yourself and who you are! Age may be a number but it is the journey that you took to get there that deserves the celebration! Here’s to more wrinkles!!!!
Are you thankful for something today Nakeds, I sure hope you are! Share the Thankful Thursday love below!
