Today I am thankful for… My quick response!
I was driving home from an appointment when I noticed a man on the side of the road today. There was nothing untoward about him other than he was looking intently in the opposite direction at traffic on the far side (without turning to check for oncoming traffic where I was coming from); all of a sudden he ‘bolt-necked’ and took off at pace to run across the road. Traveling at 60km/h on a busy main road, I saw him take the leap and in automatic response I broke hard, burning rubber, brakes screeching, with all loose items flying to the front of my vehicle, and with massive shock he came to a stop in ghastly fright less than a meter from the bonnet of my halted car, in the middle of a four-lane road. In all the “who-ha” I’m surprised that I managed to check my rear-view and know that I was safe from an incoming rear collision, that could have impacted my vehicle forward.
I come from a very instilled ZeroHarm safety work environment and I’m grateful that I have. Safety was always the first measure of business but it also was ingrained in us to take that mission home and implement. By mere luck, and thanks to my peripheral vision and quick response I avoided what could have potentially been the most traumatic experience of my life, to injure or heaven forbid to take the life of another. Thank goodness today was both “our day”!!!!
I am so incredibly grateful that today I was on the ball and that the safety of another human was thankfully at my hands rather than someone less experienced. My mate, “the runner”, surely can breathe a very big sigh of relief today and perhaps it would be in his best interests to buy a lotto ticket and celebrate the beauty of another day!
Near misses are a part of life and unfortunately misinterpreted risks are too, but today more than ever I’m a huge supporter of ZeroHarm and ensuring that when safety measures are in place, like crossings at intersections, it’s not merely an inconvenience but a necessity for your own good to utilize them.
Please be careful at times beautiful Nakeds and know that your own safety also helps the safety of others!
What are you thankful for darling Naked?
With love, light and bundles of gratitude xx
