Today for Thankful Thursdays, I am thankful for… Opportunity.
The beautiful Sia in the lyrics of her song “Opportunity” writes:
“Oh I used to think
What wouldn’t I give
For a moment like this?
This moment this gift”
I often think myself that opportunity is much like a gift, but one you have to be open to receiving. Much like ideas, I think that opportunity can quickly pass you by if you aren’t proactive enough to catch it before it disappears between your fingers. For some opportunity comes easy, for others it can be a hard slog; perhaps the reason for the hard slog was because you simply were not ready.
So many words surround opportunity in the likes of time, chance, circumstance, luck, moment or situation, and I believe they all have their place.
Recently when we were in New Zealand I saw a sign for “Opportunity Shop”, I thought “how beautiful to call your store, Opportunity Shop”! Well laugh with me now, and yes, call me all the silly blonde names you like, because we sure did have a giggle at my expense at the time, but I honestly never put the two together that Op Shop was actually an Opportunity Shop. I’ve never been a big fan of acronyms and personally I think the latter sounds very welcoming indeed!
This week an opportunity has come by to tickle my nose and I’m pretty excited! For some it might not sound like a big deal, and for now I’ll keep it under wraps, because for me everything is a big deal and I believe this is a great step in a direction I want to take in creating my ‘new normal’!
