Today I am thankful for… My BIA results!
You might be looking at this photo and wondering what this image is, am I right? Well let me share with you my new compression garment to help manage my lymphoedema. It’s fingerless, yay!!!
For starters, I’m assuming most people don’t know what lymphoedema is… Right? No, let me reassure you, you aren’t going to catch it, so it’s not some icky transmittable disease but it is pretty serious. My lymphoedema is the result of a number of major surgeries and intensive radiation undertaken on my arm. Because of this my lymph nodes and channels in my fore and mid arm have been damage. What results from this is chronic and excessive buildup of protein-rich fluid in the limb’s tissues, compromising the skin. The lymph system unfortunately can’t deal with the volume of fluid; swelling and infections result and this is why it’s so important to have a self-management care system in place with regular monitoring.
Today was my first trip back to the hospital in two months and I picked up this stylin’ little garment you see here in the photo. It’s my new compression garment specifically designed so I can wear it while I’m writing (typing), as the gloved (fingers included) versions have been making my fingers numb and purple.
Now I haven’t hid the reality that I’m not great mates with my garments, and I’m a bit rebellious in my wearing of them, but I do try to consciously make the effort. And this is where my team and I have tried to meet in agreement on a design that better suits my needs. It’s all trial and error!
Today though I’m really happy that after undergoing my tests my BIA (bioimpedance analysis – which measures fluid) results were low and getting to the normal levels! This is great news! Thank you Winter, I chant to myself!!!! [Fact: Lymphoedema prefers the cold!] Now I don’t have to go back to my OT team for 6 months! Hallelujah!!!
These results for me are a good reminder to invest in self-management care and listen to my intuition. Our bodies truly can tell us when we are overdoing it!
What are you thankful for today beautiful Naked?
With love, light and bundles of gratitude xx
